As this is likely to be my last blog for 2010 I just thought I would take you forward to 2011 and set you a challenge. Imagine a world in which women reached their full potential; more peace, less poverty and less corruption. My challenge to you is what are you going to do in 2011 to reach that potential? You can read about what I am going to do in this blog.
The reflections that have culminated in me publicly stating my challenge began on a day back in November at Cranage Hall, near Crewe in Cheshire and came together this morning! At the end of the event there celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week I had a kind of epiphany when all the strands that underpinned what I do came together in a flash of understanding. My immediate response was to say “Oh no, I can’t change my mind again!!” However I’m not changing my mind, I’m just changing my perspective! More about that in a minute! There was a lady speaking at that event, an extremely successful lady, who had developed her own product and was selling it internationally. And what was lovely about this lady she was just an ordinary woman like you and I but like all of us had that spark within her. Her name is Deb Leary and her business is Forensic Pathways. But she said something that struck me as really important: “Ladies, to be successful we need to reinvent ourselves every day”.
So I am not changing my mind, I am reinventing myself! What struck me was that at this event there were 250 ladies and I realized that every single one was a potential client for me. Why? Because I strongly believe that every single one of us has what it takes to make a difference in the world and most of us don’t take the opportunities presented to us. And it is that belief that underpins the work of On The Threshold. But for so many of us life gets in the way; we have a family and that family forms the focus of our lives for many years, or we may suffer an illness like breast cancer or postnatal depression, miscarriage or childlessness. We may experience significant life events like divorce or redundancy, we may have lost confidence or be on that hamster wheel that drives us rather than us being in charge. Whatever it is these events create barriers that can prevent us from being all that we can be.
Now to move forward to this morning; I have been pondering for some time on how to make my business more successful and I realized that I have to accept more challenge too and I found myself saying to myself that in 2011 I will do whatever it takes to make my business successful; hence the need for reinvention! It feels both scary and exciting! But challenges that resonate with your values are!
So if you want to reinvent yourself, set some exciting goals, step up and make a difference in 2011 I ask you to consider finding a life coach and if you think you can’t do it just read this fabulous quote: “Anyone who thinks that they are too small to make a difference has never tried to fall asleep with a mosquito in the room.”
